First Annual General Meeting
Wednesday 23 April 2008 saw a significant event in the long history of the Parish Room. An important meeting, open to the public, was to select a Management Committee as defined by a Deed of Trust. This states that there are to be seven Appointed Members, five Elected Members and the option for the committee to co-opt two further members.
Over three years the refurbishment of the building to enhance the old hall and modernise the ancillary facilities to make it into an attractive community meeting place has been steered by the Tickhill Parish Room Group of twelve volunteers. The time had come for a legally established Management Committee to be formed in accordance with the Trust Deed. The formula laid down is designed to ensure that a varied range of local organisa¬tions committed to the aims and the success of the Parish Room are well represented, but there is also freedom for others to join the team.
The Seven local groups with their nominees are:
Tickhill Town Council - Cllr. W. (Bill) Higgins
Tickhill Residents Association - Rosemary Chappell
The Vicar & Churchwardens, St Mary's Church - Canon Gordon Taylor
St Mary's P.C.C - Kevin White
Tickhill Women's Institute - Margaret Marrison
Yorkshire Countrywomen's Association - Pamela Goodchild
Tickhill Whist Group - Brian Stevens
For the five vacancies for Elected Members only four names were proposed, all of whom were elected.
These are:
Catherine Chambers
Philip Mottram
Bernard Rounthwaite
Noreen Sweed
This balanced and representative Management Committee has now assumed responsibility for the administration and running of the building as a community hall.
At their first committee meeting officers were elected as follows:
Chairman - Brian Stevens
Secretary - Noreen Sweed
Treasurer - Bernard Rounthwaite.
The Caretaker & Booking Officer is Janice Birkinshaw (Tel: 07840 419763).
